Wedding bands are the perennial after thought when it comes to bridal jewelry. Typically its the engagement ring that draws the most anxiety and contemplation since it usually involves a diamond. The result is that the wedding band gets the short end of the stick in terms of budget and consideration. Among men’s wedding bands tungsten is a strong choice and most men seem to prefer it to titanium because of its heft.
Women’s wedding bands encompass a huge range of choices and most women prefer not to settle for the plain gold wedding band unless they are really tight for money. Some women prefer to get a wedding band that matches their engagement ring whereas other women would rather invest everything in their engagement ring and go for a wider, more elaborate setting with diamonds thereby negating the need for a band. Some women like a one piece engagement ring/band so much that they may even end up soldering the two together because its easier for them to take off and put on one ring. Also this prevents the wedding band from turning and rubbing against the engagement ring. Wedding bands for women are 90% of the time an afterthought and many women find it difficult to get a band that line up with their engagement ring. So they end up getting a unique wedding band custom made to line up with their engagement ring for a complete fit. These bands are typically called shadow bands.
Wedding band sets have become somewhat passe as far as completely matching sets go. Most brides to be will perhaps get the matching band for their engagement ring but that is about as far as they will go. They figure their fiances will be more comfortable wearing a wedding band of their won choosing that doesn’t have to match the woman’s. An engraved wedding band is usually a must for women because they don’t want their spouses to forget the special anniversary date. The main advantage to these bands for women is that they can turn and turn on the finger and they’ll still look the same. They never look as if they are upside down if you will.
